Maple Oatmeal Bread
(Makes two loaves)

    • 1 3/4 cup boiling water
    • 1 cup rolled oats
    • 1/3 cup shortening
    • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
    • 6 cups bread flour approximately
    • 1/3 cup sugar
    • 2 teaspoons salt
    • 2 packages dry yeast
    • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
    • 2 eggs

Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine boiling water, rolled, shortening, maple and sugar and salt. Let this mixture cool. Dissolve yeast in the lukewarm water and add to the first mixture. Blend in the eggs, then add flour gradually until a stiff dough forms. Place in a greased bowl and let rise until size doubles. Punch down, knead for two minutes, shape into loaves ad place in two well greased bread pans. Let rise again. Bake for one hour.
